from Brother Harold (Fritz) Kocher ...
... I am at our Motherhouse in Carthagena, Ohio. Working by day in the
front office and some AA in the evenings ... haven't had a drink in 18
years. I have diabetes, so will not be making the trip. I am
a pump user - the latest thing out.
I shall remember everyone at Mass during the 40th class reunion.
... Next classmate to check in on March 18 was Pete Wohld. Pete
is working on a contract at Three Mile Island in Pennsylvania. Going
to make the reunion for sure he says. Pete's e-mail is: pwohld@aol.com
Bob Ladd, who originally was one of the "missing", got ahold of us next on April 17. We also heard from his brother, Chuck, who lives in Hudson, WI. Bob is retired now from the FBI and has moved three times since the last reunion, thereupon making him here to fore hard to reach. He does some Private Investigator work part time, and otherwise enjoys his new home at Grover Beach, CA, on the Pacific coast north of Santa Barbara. Bob didn't think he'd make the reunion this year. Bob went on to say in a note received 5/20 that he would gladly like to assist with a West Coast reunion in 2002 in the Pismo Beach area. Bob has 3 almost-grown children; his two daughters are in China on an English teaching program, and his son expects to be a full time professional soccer player in England. Bob's e-mail is: rJladd@thegrid.net
... Now the group is checking in and Ted Alderman popped his nose into the web site on April 22. He'll have a hectic spring/summer. His youngest daughter is getting married in May and he's renting a beach house at Virginia Beach for his whole family for July. He's going to make the reunion, he says, but we have our doubts if there's an Avalanche (CO hockey team) conflict. Ted is having a super time playing around with the Internet. His e-mail is: CTAlder@aol.com
Bob Hagemann checked in on the last day in April. Would like to see an e-mail address book included in the web site. Seems as if there's call for it. Bob's address is: R.B.Hagemann@worldnet.att.net. Bob wrote back later to say he's retired from Argonne and loving it. Has a new computer after running a 286 for the past 10 years. His wife, Sue, is diabetic and is partially disabled due to a stroke a few years ago. Their Weimaraners are both finished Bench Champions with Junior Hunter titles.
We received two e-mails today. The first was from Cleo (Bender) Linn. Cleo is still working at the patent law firm, where she does some of the computer training. Her son and daughter, who graduated from college 4 years ago, both have professions utilizing computers. Cleo expects to be at the reunion in Florida. She is single and owns a home in Marin County in California. cbl@fdml.com is Cleo's e-mail address.
George Taylor sent the other e-mail. George's e-mail is: amigospal@sprintmail.com George has plans to be in Wyoming during the reunion, but I got a hunch his plans are subject to change as we get closer. George lives in, and loves New Mexico. He manages an H&R Block tax office during the season, and otherwise works in the financial markets. His son gets married in Aspen on June 27th. George lives in suburban Albuquerque. He is 50 minutes from Santa Fe, where they sell a lot of indian jewelry and pottery. According to George, jewelry that would sell on the reservation for $50 sells for $100 in Albuquerque, and $200 in Santa Fe. The same jewelry would cost $400 in Naperville! BTW ... "Amigo" is the name of George's dog.
Checking in over the Memorial Day holiday was Sharon (Barkei) Campbell. Sharon is still living in Edmonton, Alberta. The day she signed on the site they got 30 cm. of snow in Edmonton. Her e-mail address is: SECampbell@edc.gov.ab.ca Sharon is quite pleased with the web site and the inclusion of all the e-mail addresses. Also looks like she will be present at the 40th year reunion.
Jim Murphy checked in this week (8/5) with his e-mail: Jim_Murphy@unc.edu and relates to enjoying a healthy summer.
This was Spike Flanders's week to check in. Spike's e-mail
address is: glyndwr@galesburg.net
He had these things to say: Just a quick note to let you
know that I am alive and well and think the web page is a wonderful idea.
I am sorry to say that I will not be able to make the reunion this year.
It sounds like it will be a fun time. Been busy on this end. My 20 year
old daughter, Brenna, is working at the local mall for Waldenbooks and
just loves it. She also is attending the local junior college full time
and doing fine. You remember that she went to school in Claremont, California,
for a semester and then came home and went to Knox College. Then she went
back to California for another semester and then came home and went to
Carl Sandburg. She is amazing. Cara, my 18 year old starts her first year
college the 19th of this month at St. John’s in Sante Fe, New Mexico. In
fact, we will be leaving the 15th to drive her there. She is trying to
act cool, but I can tell she is getting excited. Not much else to really
report. The garden looks great this year. Well, say “Hello” to the classmates
and remind them that if they are anywhere even close to Galesburg, to stop
in. They are certainly welcome.
No horsing around from Curt Shimp. You can e-mail Curt
at: clshimp@juno.com
In Curt's words: I retired at 55 after 30 years with Mobil OIl.
I got married when I was 47 and now have an 8 year old daughter. The later
is in conflict with my idea of retirement which was to go places and do
things. But then I did it to myself. I built a retirement home in 12 acres
of woods in Virginia horse country just less than a mile off of the Shennandoah
River. I keep busy trying to maintain order in my world. I keep in
touch with some of the old classmates such as Bob Seetin, Bob Ladd, Bob
Hagemann, Grace Herbert, Pete Wohld and Al Benuska. Bob Heim lives not
too far from me in Maryland. I am looking forward to the reunion. I have
only made one since we graduated (1982?). I have some original 3rd grade
newsletters from Naper School (The Shooting Star I think it is) and will
recreate those and bring copies along to the reunion.
More from Jim Murphy: Pete, If you have not already departed Minnesota, I wish you a good time at the reunion. I will be attending a wedding and associated activity this Halloween weekend and was not able to do both. Please say hello to folks for me, and try to be sure that I get a listing of the current directory. Thanks.
