"LIVE" at the 60th
September 12

9/12/99, 6:20 PM:   Rolled into Des Moines a few minutes ago after a 5 hour jaunt from Naperville.  Traffic got better at about Dekalb, but we had rain from about there to Iowa City.

When we arrived at the Naperville Country Club at 9:50 this morning, Joe Modaff and Nadyne Burgess were already there having a nice conversation on the patio.  And shortly after we joined the small group a newcomer had us guessing for a good while about "who is that?"  That turned out to be Randy Raddock from the Class of '59, who was also here for their reunion.  And I forgot to mention that we saw a sign on one hotel on Diehl Road for the "NHS Class of '44", while some other classmates were staying at a hotel with another NHS class celebrating their 70th reunion!  There were eight people at that one, 4 guys and 4 gals.  Uffda!

The NCC put out a nice buffet, nothing fancy like your typical $25, but real decent quality in what they had.  Classmates mixed thoroughly at this affair amid hugs, kisses, and whatever else appropriate.   I even hugged that ol' rascal Barry Fineout.

I had forgotten to mention that yesterday evening Jansen also passed out a cute momento of the weekend, a Swiss Army Knive with "NCHS 57   REDSKINS" engraved in white on the red face.  Real nice.  Jansen's idea he reminded us.

Shirl volunteered to send me something for the web site giving her impressions of the weekend.  I also would like to hear from the rest of you, and we'd like to post what you have to say on the site.  Limit it to about 10-15 vertical display inches if you can.

And I'm starting an idea of a NHS (NCHS) All-School Reunion from the graduating class of 1960 and back.  What do you think?  Any ideas on that one?  Click here.

After today we'll group the days again on the index.  But additional thoughts will follow.  And, of course, the pictures from my little Sure Shot and several other shutterbugs.

We'll talk to you next from Estes Park, CO.

Oh ... I had to go back to Jansen's this morning at 6:45 for my SuperAmerica coffee mug and the Millenium football.  Nobody was stirring, not even a mouse (mouse: get it?).  It seems somebody had brought in and protected my mug, but sitting right there on a table as big as you please, the Millenium Football.  I think I'll donate it to the Class of '29.
