"LIVE" at the 60th

Tuesday, 9/7:  Will be leaving for Naperville from Apple Valley, MN on Thursday AM.  Thought I'd take an early look at the weather.  Temperatures look terrrrrrific!  Stay tuned.  Bob Jansen said last week that the schedule has changed "somewhat", but didn't elaborate.  Some of those who won't be there:  Spike, Jared, Barb (Swanson) Richards, Tim Murphy, Nancy Murfin, Bob Ladd.  They will be missed.

Wednesday, 9/8:  Getting itchy now.  Took the afternoon off to pack up the van grab a PACKER shirt or two.
Talked to Jansen this morning to get last minute updates.  Confirmed Murph (Tim) wouldn't be making the trip, and Jim Born's health was pretty shakey.  We're pulling for you ... both you guys!

Schedule remains almost the same, except that Saturday's loin roast has become a "bar-b-que".

We are about 5 people short of the minimum for Sunday's brunch at the Naperville Country Club, so if any of you "No's" change your minds please let Bob know.

The Sweet Pea (Pat) has started the "parade" now, asking "do you think this goes with this", etc.,etc. Or "should I take my winter jacket?"  Etc., etc.  It only means we are getting closer to departure.

Took another look at the weather, especially since it's going to be about 40 degrees in MN overnight.  Still looking fine for the Birthday Party.

Thursday,  9/9(99):  To begin with, nothing fell apart today, as was suggested by the media in reference to the 9-9-99.  So the day was off to a good start.  We arrived at Party Lodging Headquarters, the Naperville Courtyard by Marriott, at about 3:30 this afternoon.  This place, and a big bunch of surrounding buildings must be located on or quite near the old Higgins or (Dale) Westin farms.

As we rolled into town off the I-88 (East-West Tollroad) the sign now proclaims Naperville to be 118,000+ population.  According to Jansen it's way more than that.

Our trip here from Apple Valley included weather exactly like above predictions.  We travelled through or by Rochester, LaCrosse, Madison, Rockford, Dekalb, Aurora, and on in.

Along the way we spotted only one old fancy car - a Hudson Hornet from the late 40's - motoring along the Interstate just like he belonged there.  Somebody was sponsoring a cheap MILLENIUM 2000 football for $5 at a SuperAmerica, which I purchased for throwing around over at Jansen's.  That ought to last all of 2 minutes.  We had one short detour at Hampton, MN for an overturned 18-wheeler that had spilled a whole load of frozen chickens.  A bright new riverboat pushing a bunch of barges caught our eyes as we passed over the Mississippi into Wisconsin.  And for those of you who know the route, we passed the llama farm moments later.

For a weekday, traffic was heavy as and after we approached Madison.  Picked up again about Janesville, then slacked off as we skirted Rockford to follow I-39 South.  At Aurora it got vicious!  That was the first clue we were back in the Naperville area.  We've been spoiled, those of us who got out of here while the gettin' was good.

Waiting on Jansen to finish golf to see what's on the agenda next.

10:00 pm - Back to the Courtyard after a nice Mexican feedbag with Bob and Ann Jansen at a place called Chevy's located just south of Diehl Road and Wheaton-Naperville Road (if they still call it that).  Bob never changes and Ann is about as healthy as anyone ever was at our (her) age (remember she's older than the rest of us).

Pete Wohld missed out on this one however.  About 7 pm I told him (he at summer home in Glen Ellyn) that I'd be getting back with him in a short while about dinner plans.  From 7:10 on Pete Wohld's summer phone was busy.  In fact it's still busy.

And speaking of Pete Wohld, on a separate sheet here at the hotel regarding "For your Safety and Security",
reads "If you see any suspicious activity or unsavory characters hanging around,  please report your observation to the Courtyard staff".   We'll have to have Pete W and George Taylor keep their distance for their own good.  Nite-nite.
